Darrell
Green, drummer
Darrell can't remember a time when he wasn't playing the drums. His
toys from the very start were little drums. A music protégé, at age
5 he began playing professionally at his church every weekend. He
went on to play in bands throughout Elementary school, Jr. High and
High School in Oakland. His father is a bass player, but it was something
internal that kept him driven to play and create music year after
year. He went on to College at the Cal Institute of the Arts majoring
in Jazz Studies w/ emphasis in African Percussion.
Now at 24, he has shared the stage with some Jazz greats, toured nationally
& internationally, and played with some esteemed local artists who
are climbing in notoriety. In the SF Bay Area music scene he is a
sought after musician for both session work and live shows. He continues
to spread his wings in different genres, but he is primarily focused
on being a JAZZ drummer.
Darrell has performed live with Dave Ellis, Lavay Smith & The Red
Hot Skillet Lickers, Red Holloway, Plas Johnson, Marlina Shaw, Stephan
Harris, Dr. Lonnie Smith and Jay McShann. In the past year he has
performed with several Bay Area bands, and has toured as far as Japan,
Norway and Sweden. In 2003 he played at the Monterey Jazz Festival
with Dave Ellis. The crowd burst onto their feet and in adoring applause
at the conclusion of his solo. Darrell is a gifted musician with a
long career ahead of him.
